Bloom, Sol
(1870-1949)
   American politician and businessman. He was born in Pekin, Illinois, but in 1875 moved to San Francisco with his family. At the age of 13 he became a bookkeeper. Later he worked in San Francisco theatres, performing various jobs. With his brother he began a retail business. In 1903 he moved to New York City where he entered the real estate and construction business. In 1923 he was elected to the House of Representatives. A supporter of the United Nations, he was appointed by Franklin D. Roosevelt to serve as a delegate to the San Francisco Conference in 1945. Later he served on the delegation committee to the Rio de Janeiro Conference.
